Will a GFCI outlet protect a second outlet?

Postby Cabin Joe » Thu Jun 13, 2013 5:26 pm

I am going to add an outlet and switch to my stand. If I am plugging it in to a GFCI, can I just use a regular duplex outlet on the stand and still be protected? The cover for the weatherproof switch/outlet is made for a duplex outlet. I if I want to use another GFCI, I will have to dremel out the opening.

Yes, all you need is one GFCI outlet. It will protect all outlets that are ahead of it.

Look up the code in your local area, but there are only a certain number of outlets that can be protected by a GFCI.

My outdoor outlet is protected by a GFCI, but on my stand I have a outdoor switch/outlet, which I plug this GFCI into it for the pump.
