I want to paint my wine press.

Postby buzzy on Mon Sep 21, 2009 3:06 pm

I just purchased a used press. I started to clean it up and found that the paint was flaking off. What type of paint can I use on the cast iron base that wont harm my wine and me for that matter? I plan on sandblasting the base clean. Any info is appreciated.

i would look for a food grade epoxy. or you could have it powder coated. if you go down to your local paint shop they should be able to provide you with some more useful info, unless you go to home depot.

Ditto -- epoxy, or powder if you can find a place to do it for you. When you blast, use the deepest grit you can find, so the paint doesn't fall off again. And be sure to blast right before you apply the paint, so it doesn't have time to rust in between. Apply two or even three coats for the best coverage.
