Using Ranco ETC to turn heater on and off

Postby bcull » Thu Feb 02, 2012 5:46 pm

I am trying to build a BIAB/RIMS system and need to control a heater during the mash. I have 2 single-stage Rancos and would like to control a heater to keep the temperature constant. The heater would need to turn on when the mash is too cool, and turn off once desired temperature is reached. Is there a way of doing this without having to buy a two-stage ETC?

A single stage controller will do what you are looking for. You need to keep the load you are switching within the Ranco's limit. What are you using for a heating element?

A single stage is fine. You will just need to make sure you dont have a heater over 1500 watts as the ranco's I believe are only good for a 15A circuit.
