Munich Malt

Postby Beer4Guy on Fri Nov 06, 2009 4:05 pm

Is there much of a difference in taste between Munich, German Munich, and Belgian Munich? It's probably too late to be asking this question as I just finished brewing a Dead Guy Ale clone and all my LHBS had was Belgian Munich.

Thanks,

Guy

Is your LHBS HomeBrew Mart? I was just there today and saw all they had was Belgian Munich. I picked some up for a pale ale I am brewing on Sunday. Not sure of the exact differences myself, but I used it last time I brewed this same pale ale and it came out great.

Cheers

Different brands do taste different. I'm drinking a Dunkel made with Castle now and it tastes better than the one I made with Briess. I think I like it more than Weyermann but I've never used that as 98% of a grain bill.

Yes, that's the place. I was going to stop by the one in Oceanside today, but ran out of time. However, I think the last time I bought Munich there, it was also Belgian.

Castle is a fine malster - I don't remember if I tried their Munich or not but I am sure it is fine. the regular old Briess Munich sucks - for one thing it is 6-row. The Bonlander is pretty good though. I use Best Munich for all my Bocks now and I think it is the Shazzamm!

I'll agree on the Best's light Munich, but I am stil using Durst's dark Munich, Best's doesn't seem as dark
