Very likely to be better, although probably not noticably depending on the freshness on the stuff in the LHBS (they seriously sell that there?!).
Aren't they available for ordinary grocery stores? They are pretty common spices in England, so I never thought of them as being difficult to buy, but there is a much larger Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi population.

Saying that, I had trouble getting hold of mace (the nutmeg related spice, not the spray) last week for a shepherds pie recipe.

They've got the same thing at Henry's Market (not sure if they are nationwide yet or not). I just picked up 1.5 oz of both crushed corriander and orange peel for less than a buck.
