best beer in Seattle?

Face it, sometimes you just don't want to cook. Got a great brewpub or restaurant you want to tell everyone about? Post it here.

The Pike Brewing Company: http://www.pikebrewing.com/.

Their Tamdem, Old Bawdy, and XXXXX Stout are outstanding. 8)

There's a fairly wide area in downtown Seattle, that the Metro bus is free...so you may want to expand beyond walking, at no expense.

You must....absolutely must go to Elysian (either near Safeco or on Capital hill) for the Belgian style beer. You would be able to go to one of the Pyramid locations, near Safeco field, as well.

6 arms...which is a 'healty' walk from downtown is a McMenimans, with fairly good brew and grub...

Hope that helps, a little...

Pike is pretty good but my fave is Big Time Brewing in the University district. You could walk there but it would be a hike. Take a taxi or the bus. Also up the hill is Elysian, which a lot of people like but I've never been a big fan of.

There's a Pyramid at the ballpark, you can walk there easily. If you can get out to the Fremont/Ballard neighborhoods, try Maritime Pacific and Hale's. Both excellent but also further than you want to walk, probably.

Seattle is my all-time favorite city. Have a great time and take a ferry ride, even if you don't get off the boat. BTW, in the Pike Place Market is a restaurant called The Athenian. It was used for the scene in "Sleepless in Seattle" where Tom Hanks and Rob Reiner discuss tiramisu and, despite that, it is actually a local hangout. Besides having a really decent beer selection, they make a crab melt sandwich that is worth going to Seattle for all by itself.

P.S. Don't let anybody tell you that McMenimen's is good. It is very mediocre.

I'm partial to the Stumbling Monk. GREAT selection of Belgians.

Here's my most recent trip there with some friends, prior to our Alaskan cruise:
