Face it, sometimes you just don't want to cook. Got a great brewpub or restaurant you want to tell everyone about? Post it here.

Any good beer in Groton, CT?

Postby jatlrdierk » Wed Jan 21, 2009 6:36 pm

My trip has been changed and I will be staying in Groton. Any good watering holes there? Or Mystic, etc. I'll definitely look for Cottrells.

I will be going to North Kingstown, RI next week. I would like to get a beer or 4 when I'm there. Anyone out there have a recommendation?

I'm sure you'll find some great beers there. While it's not from RI, but Connecticut, I really like Cottrells Ale. It's an 'Old ale' by style definition and might not be a great example of the style in a judging round, but it's damn tasty beer. It's available in most party stores there as well as on tap in some of the better bars/restaurants.
Now that Dubya is out of office, I shall reluctantly stop providing the forum with his little gems of wisdom. Watch out Barak, we'll be listening....

On Tap

Belgian Blonde adjusted to Redhead
English IPA
Bohemian Dunkel

In fermenters

Saison de farro
Helles Bock

On deck

Munich Pils

In Hartford or therabouts:
Thomas Hooker Brewery
City Steam Restaurant and Brewery
In Hamden:
New England Brewing Company (Good luck trying to get in)

In New Haven:
Delaney's Tap Room (64 On Tap and 184 in bottles)

Also there are Southport Brewing Locations across CT but I wouldn't recommend going to one.. .Over priced and frankly their beer isnt that great. I don't know of anything in Mystic or Groton, but I would absolutely recommend going to Hooker brewery for a saturday open house ($10 entry gets u drink all u want brewery tour and a Pint glass)

And Delaneys is just freaking amazing because not only is the beer selection great, they have a Stella Artois world championship winner bar tender and beer connoisseur there to pour a beer for you.
