Obligatory how much you brew thread

Postby tookalisten » Sat Dec 31, 2016 9:25 am

2016 is about over. How much did you brew this past year and what are your goals for 2017.

I only did 35 gallons and that includes the Sweet Stout that I am mashing in as I type this. This is the lowest amount I have brewed in the past 12 years. I suspect I will do more in 2017 but probably not much over 50 gallons.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

Not enough! Too lazy to look. Sadly I'd guess 6-8 sessions of 12 or 15G.....I'm glad to see 2016 go. Sucked for the most part from my perspective. Not the least of which was David Bowie's death. I'm ready for a better 2017 and MORE brewing.

FWIW I think I ended and begun the previous/new year right. Ended with a Victory Golden Monkey and started with an all time classic SNPA.

Pint glassed raised for a safe, happy, peaceful 2017 for all of my MoreBeer forum Sister(s) and Brothers.

See what I did there Ale Wife?!?!

I did okay in 2016, only 16 gallons for the year, however given that I *usually* only brew 1.7-2 gallons on average these days, that's not so bad. By exact count, I brewed 8 batches. I figure I did pretty good, as about 8-12 batches per year has been normal for me for many years.

Way back in 2012, I only brewed 4 batches the whole year, 12 gallons total. After a string of 7 contaminated batches in 2010 and 2011, I became very grumpy with beer and brewing, and took a hiatus to rethink my ways, and got distracted by educating myself about different obsessions...

...orcharding and cidermaking, which remain interests today and have been incorporated into my "brewing" schedule. Related to brewing, yes, kind of, but a little different slant, as you don't actually "brew" a cider, and you can't "brew" a friggin fruit tree or bush in the back yard. So that's been cool. You should see my little orchard now... I have 3 apple trees with 7 varieties (I learned to graft), one cherry, an enormous raspberry bush, 3 blackberry plants, a gooseberry bush. It's fun. It does take a bit of time to maintain, mostly in the summer.

For whatever else it's worth (not much), I already brewed my first 6 gallons of 2017 on 1/1/17. A split 6-gallon batch (rare for me!) of porter and schwarzbier. It was going to be all porter, but I had fresh lager yeast on hand, so I figured, what the heck, why not.

135 gallons in 2016 plus my annual 5 gallon batch of common cider.
It's been a good year, of course, being retired helps.

It's been awhile since I've been on the forum, but I'll post mine. I did 55 gallons this past year, which is about normal for me. I'm going to shoot for 80 this next year. Cheers everyone!
