New Belgium Hoptober

Postby emptypint on Wed Oct 28, 2009 8:23 am

Hey has anyone tried New Belgium's Hoptober? I got a sixer for a poker game, and really really enjoyed it.

It poured golden, with a medium to thin head. The hops is really noticeable dispite being only 40IBUS (Maybe an ignorant statement on my part), but it drank clean and balanced. It reminded me of the an American Pale Ale. I think this is my new favorite commercial beer.

I think I'll try to make this one this year.

I tried this beer a few weeks ago. I thought it was nicely hopped with 5 different hops and had a clean finish. I also bought a six pack and drank them all in one night. I was expecting more malt flavor since I think it has 4 different malts added to it. Overall, another good beer from New Belgium IMO.
Cheers,
Mark

i really enjoyed the hop finish on the Hoptober, and I suppose I was reasonably surprised that a New Belgium beer would be kicking out hops, even though the name implies it. I guess I was looking for an amber or Oktoberfest-like maltiness and didnt find any, and for that i was displeased. but for a rich pale ale, it was real good. sampled on draft at Lamppost Pizza, Upland, CA
