We were just up in the guest room closet putting away some xmas stuff and I found a four pack with a small vertical of Sami.

Mark,

If you drink them, I'd be interested in your opinion of the 2004 & 2005. That's where my stash starts, and I'm resisting cracking them open for a few more years. But if they're really, REALLY good...

Not meaning to hijack or anything, but do you think this holds true for Rogue's Old Crustacean barleywine. I had some Hopsquatch barleywine from Four Peaks Brewery in Tempe, Az and I liked it so much I went straight to the booze store as soon as I got home and purchased one of the 25oz ceramic bottles of Old Crustacean. I really did not enjoy it like I thought I would. I was rather surprised until I read all these reviews about other high grav/IBU beers. Should I get another bottle and sit on it for a few years as there are not very many other barleywines that make it to stillwater.

That's the price of a 4 pack around here.

Yeah the liquor store here is plain ridiculous sometimes. They want 13.99 for a six pack of oaked bastard. I want to try it but that kind of seems like a lot. What size are the sami's in the 4 pack?

Stone sixers run almost 18 bucks here in Florida. Though we just started getting their brew in stock.

While the bottles are marked 0.33L (in the glass), the label is clearly marked 11.2 oz (and has been for a long time - well, in truth, it was marked 11,2 for many years).

In the FWIW file 0.33L = 11.15863 oz.

thanks, i used the wrong mL/oz conversion. 33cL is a pretty standard bottle/can size in europe.

A guy I know from work just gave me two bottles of the 2008 Samichlaus. I have a bottle of 2006 that I'm tempted to open and taste...should I wait awhile longer or do you think 3 years is good vintage?

Also, I noticed that the label on the 2008's are different than the 2006. They say "Classic" on them, and the caps are a different color as well.

Funny you should post this today. I shared a bottle of the 2004 vintage last night with the wife and it was heavenly. Straight out of the beer fridge (~50 deg) it had a distinct raisin/plum/port thing going on but as it warmed I swear I noticed a honey mead-like aroma.

There was a slight alcohol burn that complimented the beer flavors nicely and the carbonation was almost zero. Probably the best dessert I've had in a while! :)

I have 05, 06 and 07's. I say when the time is right open it (special occasion). My 2005 bottles are really nice and complex. Very enjoyable. It is 14% abv so I am guessing they will probably peak between 5 - 7 years.
