Nostradamus, Artisanal Belgian Brown Ale

Postby turbo_ale » Wed Dec 26, 2012 9:08 pm

"NOSTRADAMUS from Brasserie Caracole is a very complex artisanal Wallonian brown ale, rich, warming, little piquant in the mouth with liquorice, mocha flavors, pear and toasted bread background notes, perfect after-dinner drink or night cap."

Beer Style:.....
Belgian Brown Ale
Alcohol by Volume:.....
9.5%
Characteristics:.....
Very complex Wallonian brown ale with the aroma of chocolate and port wine
Ingredients:.....
Special and roast malts, Saaz hops
Awards:.....
2002 World Beer Championships - Gold Medal "Exceptional"

What I got from this beer, brown in color, tan head, massive head, great lacing, aroma of brown sugar, flavor of brown sugar, a strong winter warmer. I could not pick up the other flavors that this beer states it to have.

BEER, a mixture of malted grains, water, hops and yeast, that is transformed through the course of fermentation that transcends the simplicity of those basic ingredients, fundamentally into the drink of life.

Interesting that you posted this. I got 8 belgians for Christmas (beers, not people) and one of them happened to be a Nostradamus. I'll have to crack it open this weekend and give a review.

I tried it this weekend and here are my thoughts:

Appearance: Cloudy brown, with little head and poor lacing.
Aroma: Lots of brown sugar, figs, raisins.
Mouthfeel: Highly carbonated, medium-heavy mouthfeel.
Taste: Again, lots of brown sugar, dark fruits, raisins. Alcohol warmth on the finish is very noticeable (9%).
Overall: I thought this was a great beer! I really enjoyed it and wouldn't hesitate to drink it again!

Poured from a 750ml corked bottle, with a "Best Before" date of May 24, 2013.
Bottled: Nothing

Keg #2: Bourbon Barrel Stout
Keg #3: Nothing
Keg #4: Nothing
Fermenting: Pale Ale
Next On Deck: India Pale Ale
