Belching Beaver Horchata Imperial Stout

Postby MaltnHopsrGood » Tue Jan 27, 2015 7:59 pm

Has anyone tried this yet? I just got a bottle of it, and will be trying it this weekend. It's an Imperial Stout brewed with horchata, and weighs in at 9%. Belching Beaver makes some different beers including Me So Honey, Peanut Butter Milk Stout, Easy Beaver and Pound Town to name a few. Pretty good beers, so I'm looking forward to this one.

They're relatively new. I think they opened up in 2012. They're in San diego county.

Pours black with ruby highlights and a thin tan head. Smells of roasted malts and coffee. Lots of chocolate, mild coffee and cinnamon flavors mingle with lightly roasted malts. It's sweet but not cloying. No hop aroma or flavor detected. Heavy mouthfeel, almost like a milk stout and very light carbonation.

Overall I really enjoyed this beer and would definitely buy it again!

strictly based on opinion, these beers are way too sweet for me.

Also, the name Belching Beaver conjures up some weird mental images.

Slight peppery bite to it as it?s swallowed. Alcohol is well hidden, tastes more like a 5% ABV sour red Belgian than a 10% dark ale. Finishes sour, tart, and vinegary.???

I know what I said before but I recently tried their coconut IPA which sounded terrible. It was actually enjoyable.

That will teach me to always try a brewery twice before forming my opinion.
