How to naturally culture koji rice?

Greetings everyone,

I've looked at many recipes for sake, miso, etc., and they all say to use either koji rice or to inoculate the rice with koji spores obtained from an asian market. Is it possible for me to just cook rice, then leave it out for the mold to naturally find its way into the rice?

I think fermentation will not happen if you're just gonna do that.
