First Roast - Amazing Failure

Postby CJ-Stout » Fri Dec 10, 2010 9:59 pm

Well, I gave it a shot ....

Whirly Pop roast (outside on beer setup), first crack was evident...like popcorn (I got excited)

I didn't hear the 2nd crack --- Smoke, Flames, etc.

Whirly Pop is soaking. I plan on giving it another shot in the morning. (after some scrubbing)

What did I miss? I don't mind losing a lb of beans if I learned something, but I didn't. How can you hear the 2nd crack if you are turning the the crank?

Please help...

I go by color and smell and on the whirly pop, at least from my understanding, that second crack can happen fast and you can easily over roast.

I have an air popper popcorn machine that I do mine with and I just watch the color and smell. I don't think I have ever over roasted doing that, under sure, but never over. Under is much more palatable to me.
