Coffee Beans of the Month at B3????

Postby Brandon » Mon Jan 15, 2007 1:45 pm

I would like to see if there is any possibility or interest for that matter in morecoffee.com starting a "Green Coffee Bean Of the Month Club" or something like that. I think it would be nice if there was a way to maybe get 2lbs shipped automatically every month or every other month of some good green beans. Hopefully a bean notes sheet could be included so we could get started on doing more bean research if we chose.

If you vote no please say why or offer a suggestion on how this could be made possible.

Anyway, I think it would be a great way for B3 to keep customers and generate some "buzz"

I vote no, because 2 lbs of beans don't get you to free shipping, green beans store for a long time, so you can order a pound of 12 different beans at once and make it a lot easier on B3. I think it would be cool if the beans came with a notes sheet.

I voted no because of the shipping as well. I would rather just include it in my beer order. It would be nice if they had some sampler packs though that might include good blending combos that are changed every couple months.

I like that idea too!

As far as the shipping goes, what if it was a lets say for conversation sake the club was $15 a month 3lbs beans, shipped postal service in flat rate boxed? Maybe one of the B3 coffee guys can weigh in on how feasible shipping and beans are for flat rate.

I'm trying to get something going that would be fun for us coffee roasters and keep b3 involved since they do sponsor this board.

Let's just assume that the averge shipping for 3lbs is $5(I'm sure that's low), that only leaves $10 for coffee. B3 doesn't sell a bean that goes for under $3.50/lb. The shipping is what kills it, for what you would have to pay in shipping you could have another pound of coffee if you just include it with your beer supply purchase. There might be some people that only buy coffee beans from B3 and for them it might be worth it but since I order beer stuff just about every month it's easier for me to include the beans with my beer and get free shipping.

Like I said, some samplers would be nice. Even if it were 4 8oz samplers. Something that gets people to try different beans and blends. Maybe regional samplers?

I really like the sampler idea better than mine.

I agree that a sampler would be a good idea, maybe a general purpose sampler to introduce different styles and an African sampler and a South American sampler. 1/2 or 1 lb size would be good.
