Avatar FAQs

Postby Keith » Sat Jul 15, 2006 7:11 am

Questions about avatar sizing, location, etc. come up frequently so here we go:

How do I add my own avatar?

To add an image from the internet, click on the "User Control Panel" link at the top of the page. Then click on "Edit Avatar" under "Options". You will see a field for linking your avatar:

Image

Type in or paste the URL (address) and click "Submit". Leave the "Avatar Dimensions" field blank.

NOTE: PLEASE make sure your avatar is no wider than 150 pixels. While the phpBB software as installed on B3's server doesn't automatically resize it or reject avatar images over 150 pixels wide, large avatars disarrange the page frames and can make viewing the content difficult. In general it's preferred to keep avatars under in height as well.

What if I want to add an image from my computer? Can't I just upload it?

Images cannot be saved onto the server as set but they can be saved in other sites, such as PhotoBucket, ImageShack, and TinyPic. Most are very user-friendly and include the tags to link to the images for posting in the forum.

How do I resize my image?

While some online image storage sites include options for resizing, some like ImageShack may also have an option for the suggested "150 pixels wide" suggestion. An alternative is a graphics editing software, such as GIMP or PhotoShop (NOTE: GIMP is FREE!). There also may be some such software preinstalled on your computer.

Also, please remember that many users are viewing the forum while at work (like we're supposed to be working?!?!). As such, please refrain from using adult content such as nudity, partial nudity, or sexually suggestive content in your avatar and/or signature that would otherwise jeopardize someone's job. If you wouldn't put a picture of it on your desk, it doesn't belong here.

If you have any additional questions, suggestions for links, etc., please feel free to post them to this thread.

Cheers!

How does the Gallery work - or does it?

It does not. That's a feature that allows *us* to host avatars for you, but we don't do that. You have to host your own avatar.

Host it on Imageshack if you don't want to effect your hit rate.

We seem to have some double standards. That is if it was the Mods here who removed my recent avatar. I figured with all the bouncing boobs it would be safe to use a nice wiggling (clothed) womans butt. I guess not ......

I'm assuming it was the image host that caused the problem. Imageshack seems to be having issues as well. Any others you could reccomend?

Wasn't me. Must be your hosting provider.
