This is a little rant - Please hear me out.

I know that when you click on a link it opens in the same browser and one must use the back button to return. Well..

I just got bitten by this. I composed a fairly long reply to someone's query about natural gas. I had a link within it. I then previewed the post and as I awlways do, I tested the link. I had forgotten (momentarily) that the link opens in the same browser window. I closed the link page and all was lost. My bad - But - I'll not retype the post. I'm done.

This is the ONLY board with this behavior. Is there not some way for this to be fixed? Click a link and it opens in a new browser?

Please..

Ha. Pretty sure this is a browser setting on your computer. You can set it to open links in new windows, new tabs, or in the same window.

It's not a browser setting, it's a php setting. My browser opens links in a new window on all other boards. Have to click on my mouse wheel to open in new window on this board. Would be nice if it would do it automaticly.

On every web site I have ever built (OK, so I've only built one web site :P ) the option to open links as a seperate browser window or not is a function of the web site, not the user.

Consider using Firefox with the sessions plugin. You can reopen a previous browsing session (all tabs, etc.) if you accidentally close the window, shut down the computer, or anything. Also, in Firefox if you click on a link with the scroll button of your mouse (click on the wheel as if it is a button) you will open the link in a new tab.

I've had the same thing happen to me here several times before. This is the only forum I frequent which has this behavior. I can get around it IF I REMEMBER by right clicking on the link and selecting "Open in a New Window or Tab" but unfortunately I hardly ever remember.

I've done the same thing, I wrote a 5 paragraph explaination of something with a link, I forgot and tested the link and lost everything I wrote. There was no way I was going to write it all over so I gave a short answer and the link.

It is tough to remember to right click on links because this is the only forum that requires it...

When they converted to this format is when it started.....Liked the other setup quite a bit.
I've learned (for the most part) to use the right click option. Didn't know about the mouse wheel thing......learn something new every day.
But that's just my opinion.

Heres another thing some people might not know ...... hold your control key while rolling the mouse wheel. It zooms in and out in most applications. 8)

Not really a zoom, more of a font size change.
