Belgian Pale Ales category 16B

Postby KVP on Sun Dec 10, 2006 9:00 pm

Hello all,
I'm seeking samples for Belgian Pale Ales category 16B.
I'm in Maryland so if you know any that fit the bill available here please let me know. So far I haven't found the samples listed in the BJCP guide.

Thanks, Kevin

De Koninck would be a classic example if you can find it. Some publications bill it as the "gold standard" of the style.

I had one the other day and a good beer bar and was very impressed.

Kevin, I was looking for examples myself, and the beer store told me this was...however it was not listed in the BJCP guide. Great beer BTW. They have it at Wine World by us. They also have a gift pack of Leffe, Hoegaarden and Stella Artois

That beer is a different style altogether. A blonde is more like a lower gravity tripel.

Based on what I had read (never had a 16b that I know of) I was suprised that Leffe was a Belgium pale ale, but the guy at the beer store seemed pretty knowledgable, and said he read it on beer advocate. Guess you can't believe everthing you read. Still is a nice beer.

Kevin, one that is in the style guide that they have a Wine World is Rare Vos.

Thanks guys,
I'll pick up the one at Wine World, but still would like to find at least two others.

I checked Beer Advocate and sure enough the have the Leffe listed as a Belgium Pale Ale Here is the link http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/470/2137

also here is a link to many more that they claim are BPAs http://beeradvocate.com/beer/style/54

I have no idea is Beer Advocate's styles and in synch with the guidelines. FWIW several have the work "blonde" in the name. So who has the skinny on this is Leffe Blond and other blonds a Belgium Pale Ale or not?

In the homebrewing world......it is classified as a Belgian Blonde.

According to Wyeast.....they suggest that I try the new:

NEW Wyeast 3655 Belgian Schelde Ale Yeast

For some reason...the gentleman was speaking code....but infering that this yeast strain is the De Konninck strain. So I'm going to brew the following batch.
