How to post pictures in the forums

Postby Mike_ » Mon Feb 07, 2011 10:32 am

I hope a Moderator can pin this so all can use it to help them post pictures

How to post Pictures in a forum

First you need a picture on your computer
Let’s keep it on your desktop for this lesson

Image

You need to navigate to a website that will host your picture
I use “Imageshack” it is free and you don’t even need to have an account
To host a picture. http://imageshack.us/ (NOTE: Imageshack is no longer free) here is a free site: http://postimage.org/
(If you make an account you can keep and edit your pictures
later on if you want to access them again or edit them or even create photo albums
but it is all still free.)

Image

Hit the “Browse” button

Image

and find the picture that you placed on your desktop of your computer, Click on the picture

Image

You will see the picture under the file name. Now hit upload and wait for it to finish

Image

Now you will see this page

Image

Find the “Direct Link” to the right you will see the URL or the address that you need to copy
To use in the forum. Click on the address once so it turns blue and then right click on the address with
your mouse button and hit copy. I numbered it on the next picture 1-2-3

Image

Now you are ready to post picture in the forums.

Go to the forums and make a post.

In that area you will see a button called “img”

Click on it and you will see this

Image

In between the two “img” you will want to place the address you copied from Imageshack. click
in between them and right click with your mouse again and hit past

Image

So it will look like this:
Notice how the "img" are at the ends of the address you just pasted

Image

Now hit Submit

You have now added a picture to your post

Thanks Mike, there is a lot to uploading a pic to a forum, dam. First thing I need to do is get an account to Imageshack, second practice many times over till I get the hang of it. Then after a while I will forget a step or two and have to refer back to this informative post.

I have a question about the picture size and pixel count. In your example the picture is of the whole beer glass uploaded to Imageshack. When it was sent to this forum the picture is only the top 25%. Is there a auto size button at Imageshack or this forum to get the correct sized picture, or how could it be done on the posters end ?
Also the pixel count, sometimes the pixel count needs to be reduced to be accepted, how is that done ?

Computer illiterate, just does not come easy for me. I have learned to send a picture as an attachment in a e-mail.

Thanks, Bob

Hi Bob yes their is. I just posted half of the picture is all.

See here:

See the drop down option in that step. You can pick what you need from their.

as for pixel count you would need to use a picture manager such as "PAINT"
that comes with any windows based PC and edit it in their.
I can make a Tutorial an that as well if you would like?

On that drop down menu, what is the best size to use here? 320x240 or 640x480 ? Or does that all depend on the actual original picture ?

As for the pixel deal, much later on that.

Please upgrade the board; it's a nice resource but we need an easier way. I'm sure the current state of engineering includes templates or forum software packages that allow DIRECT UPLOAD of images. Please, adminz, we must have DIRECT IMAGE UPLOAD option. It would greatly enhance the multimedia potential and communication value of this bulletin board.. If something's a pain in the neck to do, as is the current image upload process, it's a DETERRENT; plain and simple. Just like bottling is a deterrent to brewing, as compared to kegging. Some concept. Please switch to a simple DIRECT IMAGE UPLOAD. Thank you!

This board is not like it once was B3 does not support this board that much anymore if you are looking for easier uploading of Pictures rather than home brewing discussion than this is not a place for you
